Draft: not yet reviewed

This document is a working draft. It has not been reviewed by a solicitor or by the firm’s compliance function, and it contains placeholders that must be completed before publication.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. Some are needed for the site to work at all. Others record how the site is used, or are set by a third party whose content appears on a page.

Similar technologies (local storage, session storage and tracking pixels) do much the same job. Where this policy says "cookies" it means all of them.

Cookies we set

We set one cookie, and only if you send us an enquiry. We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, nothing that follows you to other websites, and we do not use local storage, session storage or tracking pixels.

mcpw_enquiry_name
Set when you submit the form on our contact page. It holds your first name so the confirmation page that follows can greet you, and nothing else. It cannot be read by scripts on the page, it is deleted as soon as the confirmation page has used it, and it expires after two minutes in any case. Because it only exists to complete something you asked for, it does not need your consent.

The details you enter in the contact form are sent from our server to our own client management system. They are not stored in your browser.

Content we load from Google

Two parts of this site load content from Google. When they do, your browser sends Google your IP address and the address of the page you are on. Anything Google does with that is governed by Google’s privacy policy rather than ours.

Google Maps
The map showing our office on the contact page. It loads when you scroll down to it, and Google may set its own cookies on your device when it does. It is not loaded on any other page.
Google Fonts
The typeface used across the site is downloaded from Google when a page loads. This sends Google your IP address, but sets no cookies.

Turning cookies off

Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, either for all sites or for one. The controls sit under Settings, usually in a section called Privacy, Security or Site permissions.

If you block cookies, the contact form will still send your enquiry; the confirmation page simply will not greet you by name. Blocking third-party cookies stops Google setting cookies through the map, and the rest of the site works as normal.

Most browsers also offer a "do not track" setting. There is no agreed standard for how websites should respond to it, and this site does not change its behaviour based on it.

More information

Our privacy policy explains what we do with personal information more generally, including the rights you have over it and how to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Getting in touch

If anything here is unclear, or you want to talk to someone about it rather than read another page, call the office and ask.
